Amber is the fossilized, hardened resin of the pine tree, Pinus succinfera, formed in the Eocene period about 50 million year ago! When rubbed with a cloth, Amber becomes electrically charged and can attract small particles.
There are large reserves of Amber on the seabed of the Baltic. After heavy storms, Amber is found on the beaches and in shallow waters of bordering countries, after the surf has stirred up the seabed. It is also found in Poland, Italy, Romania, Burma, Canada, the US and the Dominican Republic.
It has been used since prehistoric times for jewelry and religious objects.
Amber is worn for good luck and protection.
