Larimar is a very unique and fascinating gemstone that is found only in the Dominican Republic overlooking the Caribbean Sea. Larimar is also known as Atlantis stone. These beads are filled with delicate clouds of pale blue with hints of sea green and splashes of darker blue. Some beads even exhibit areas of chatoyance!
Larimar is also known as the Dolphin Stone, Blue Pectolite, Atlantis Stone, and Stefilia's Stone. Originally discovered in 1916, it was named by the Dominican who re-discovered it in 1974, taking the first letters of his daughter's name, Larissa, and the Spanish word for the sea, mar, to create Larimar.
Larimar is a type of pectolite or a rock composed largely of pectolite, an acid silicate hydrate of calcium and sodium. Pectolite is found in many locations, but larimar has a unique volcanic blue coloration, which is the result of copper substitution for calcium.
Larimar's connection with the element of water - which is the element that rules our emotions - means that it is a wonderful stone to use for all manner of anxiety related to emotional issues, such as that caused by relationships, social anxiety, guilt, or anxiety caused by "thinking bad thoughts."
